We are grateful to God for many things at the moment. As well as his grace sustaining us during this challenging time, we have had a number of encouragements in the last couple of weeks.
Firstly, Cristina's father had a positive CAT scan that showed that his cancer is under control and hasn’t spread. He continues with his immunotherapy every two weeks.
Some of you may remember Mohamed, who is 21 and had a number of dreams about Jesus (although initially he didn’t know it was Jesus). We lost contact with Moha at the beginning of the year as he decided to stay in his house, not have contact with anyone and just connect to his computer for programming and playing games. A couple of weeks ago, Cristina felt compelled to write to him, remind him of his dreams and invite him to the pre-Story of God meal last Friday and, to our surprise, he turned up and has said he will be coming to the Story of God meetings this year. Terry has since seen him and will be meeting with him again next week.
In the English language exchange which Cristina runs, she discovered that a man called Pat from the Philippines came to know Jesus in the US. We don’t know too much about where he is at spiritually and he and his family are currently living between Spain and The Philippines, but it is good to have another Christian in the group as Luis and Lucas aren’t there now. We are also thankful that around 15 people who don’t yet know Jesus have said they want to study the 7 signs in John’s Gospel in this years Story of God meetings.
Please can you pray for the women this Saturday. Cristina has the first monthly breakfast in the morning and a meal with a different group of women in the evening (although some may be at both). The theme for this year’s breakfasts is “Invitations of Jesus” starting with Jesus’ invitation at the beginning of John’s gospel to "come and see”. We start the Story of God properly on Friday 10th so please pray for that as well. We really long for people to “believe in Jesus… and have life in his name” as John describes as his purpose of recording those 7 miracles at the end of his gospel.
As well as Cristina’s English exchange which runs on a Tuesday, we are going to try to be more present in another language exchange this year called ”like life itself” on Saturdays. It’s a little stretching on our time, but after much thought and prayer during our sabbatical, we identified it as a key “life space” where we can share the life and truth of Jesus with others. Please pray for these 2 groups and that God will lead us to people who are hungry for the true eternal life that only Jesus can give. Terry continues to meet with the Catholic group of men to look at the Bible. This year they have finally decided to risk looking at one of Paul’s letters, which was considered to be too polemic to study before! May God open their eyes to see the glory of God in the face of Jesus!
We realise that it is quite a challenge to keep contact with so many people, especially as we are mainly on our own with Rodrigo and Vania not around at the moment and having lost a family that moved to Germany last year and also Luís who returned to Bolivia. The other members of the church family are either older (so can not keep the late nights needed for most of the ministry opportunities) or have young children or other situations which complicate their involvement.
Please pray for wisdom and for the Holy Spirit to guide us as to how to use our time, to not neglect meeting with individuals and to know when to rest. We are not as young as we used to be! We could really do with a younger couple to train and to take on responsibility for reaching younger adults, teens and children!
With love in Jesus,
Terry and Cristina.
