Latest news from Cordoba
May 2026
As we write this, we are on our way to pick up our daughter Esther and her boyfriend from Málaga airport. It's a good thing we're used to late nights because their flight lands at 23:45 and it's over 150 miles to our house from the airport so lots of time to catch up!
We often get opportunities to explain something about Jesus and his good news, but the last few weeks most of the opportunities have come from people in relational conflicts who start speaking badly about others and have given us the opportunity (especially Cristina) to talk about how the gospel and being loved and accepted by others radically sets us free to love and accept others, despite their failures and also to recognise our failures because we know that we are perfectly loved and forgiven by God, because of Jesus' perfect life and death in our place.
It still sometimes amazes us how totally challenging it is to people to see the difference living as a child of God makes to our everyday life and relationships! Please pray for Lolo, Sylvia (who runs the other language exchange) Fatma (the Turkish woman who is leaving Cordoba this summer), David and Matt amongst others, that God will open their eyes to their need for Jesus.
Terry also had a great opportunity with the Catholic guys whom he studies the Bible with. They have been looking at Paul's first letter to the Thessalonians and somehow the conversation got on to Purgatory and the need to be pure to appear before God's throne. A few of them said they wanted to go for a drink with Terry afterwards and asked him what he believed so he was able to share with them how "the blood of Jesus purified from all unrighteousness" and some other Bible verses to help them see that the death of Jesus is sufficient to make us fully pure from sin before God and that there is nothing else needed.
It was a great conversation that touched on fear about death, God's perfect love and justice amongst other things. Please pray for Paco, Jose-Miguel and Juan-Antonio especially but for all the men who are wrestling to understand how to separate Bible truths from dogmas and man-made traditions and understand what it means to put their trust fully in Jesus.
Last Saturday Cristina had a group of 6 women (along with a couple of ladies from the church) come along to the house to learn how to make Lasagna and Apple crumble with her and her mum. It's highly funny to us as both Cristina and her mum don't enjoy cooking at all but at the request of the women they had agreed to get together.
The food we cooked we then ate together and later Cristina's mum took the opportunity to share her life story and share her testimony with these women (via translation) which was wonderful. Whilst most of the women are those who come along to the women's breakfasts each month one of them, Gloria, has only appeared once, and another lady called Sandra has consistently avoided coming, saying she doesn't believe in God, but for the first time came along and was able to listen to the gospel, which was fantastic.
Please pray for Nina, Carmen, Cristina, Isabela, Gloria and Sandra that they will be drawn to Jesus.
After nearly a week with Esther we will travel back to the UK on June 3rd for our ECM British Missionaries retreat and then spend the next month visiting churches, family (and some friends if we get time). We will also be reflecting and praying about what to focus on after the summer.
With love in Jesus,
Terry and Christine.
